Thrust into the limelight when he is tipped for future stardom as Sweden's Chief of Police, Ragnar Amrén is persuaded to perform his special fan dance at a private dinner during the County Commissioners Conference. Shortly afterwards, visited by an elderly doctor he has never met before, Amrén disappears and his visitor's dead body is discovered hanging above a road.
Scandal threatens to engulf the force, and Magnus Trygg, Amrén's closest colleague, is secretly ordered to find the fugitive and take ‘appropriate action' to safeguard the reputation of the police.
